It stands as a milestone on the long path to the understanding of America's longrifles. Hetrick's study was is considered a milestone because it was the first formally published work that recognized and treated in detail the longrifles of one particular school of longrifle gunsmithing. In this second edition two more Bedford rifles were added and one by Peter White which most likely was made after he left Bedford and moved to Uniontown.
