Description: This richly produced exhibition catalog celebrates the richness of needlework treasures owned or produced on the North Shore of Massachusetts for more than 200 years. Beginning with such early works as a 16th-century white-work sampler, and ending with a wool and cotton blanket from 2000, this exquisite volume features such 19th-century pieces as a charming schoolgirl’s sampler, a painted and embroidered silk picture depicting a scene from Shakespeare’s Cymbeline, and a calling card tray made of birch bark, moose hair, and thread that combines Native American traditions with European design elements.
