Description: Photographer James Rudnick moved to Brooklyn in 1977 and almost immediately began to document two nearby landmarks, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, both approaching their centennials and slated for major restorations. Rudnick closely followed their progress through the 1980s and then turned his camera on two more major projects, the New York Public Library and Grand Central Terminal. The 150 photos in this album, from close studies of conservators at work to vertigo-inducing panoramas taken high in ceilings or atop towers, are accompanied by a historical discussion of New York City focusing on 1865-1917.
