Description: The literary identity of Marion Johnson, Georgina Masson—"Babs" to her friends—was an English citizen, born in the Far East, who lived in Rome from the early 1940s to the late 1970s. She was a photographer and a historian of architecture from ancient Rome to medieval Sicily, and produced such books as the celebrated Companion Guide to Rome (1965), Italian Villas and Palaces (1959), and Italian Villas and Gardens (1961). This monograph gathers a selection of 35 of her black and white images from the archives she bequeathed to the American Academy in Rome; additional images accompany several short essays, in English and Italian.
