Format/Condition: ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS OF ANTIENT ARMOUR Complete two volumes. Folio. Vol. I with an engraved frontis. Facing an engraved title page, followed by a printed title, followed by an engraved port. of Meyrick, followed by 74 plates, including a vignette at the end. (xxvi), +73 leaves of text, each following the plate that they describe. Vol II with engraved frontis. & title page +78 additional plates, including a vignette at the end. The plates depict all types of Medieval armour & arms, including flintlock rifles, swords, spears, etc.

Ex-lib, with rubber stamps to both printed title pages and to all 3 edges of both vols. No other markings. Bound in period ¾ red morocco with marbled boards and a.e.g. Spines with 5 raised bands and heavy gilt stamped compartments and black leather spine labels(3 out of 4 lacking). Contents clean & tight with only occasional light finger soiling. w.a.f. Bindings lightly scuffed/rubbed, with some of the corners worn thru to boards, and with a 4” split to the front hinge of vol. II, o/w VG.

This important collection, some of which are now at the British Museum, included examples of European, Asian and ethnographic arms. A classic antiquarian arms and armor book.
