Description: Thomas Kirkland wrote this 1792 classic, Commentary on Apoplectic and Paralytic Affections because he had long been dissatisfied with the contemporary wisdom on nervous apoplexies and palsies. Encouraged that John Fothergill had previously voiced the same need, Kirkland produced his Commentary, in which he sought to discern different forms of apoplexy and palsy, describing the various symptoms of each form, and suggesting the correct uses of medication for each.
