Description: This critical, visual biography of Post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), expanded from the author’s definitive study of the artist from 1948, is now heavily illustrated with large, one-page color reproductions (up to 9 × 11 1/2 inches) of such works as Madame Cézanne in a Red Armchair, Two Cardplayers, Gardanne, and several self-portraits, as well as various compositions of still-lifes, bathers, and views of Mont Saint-Victoire and the Château Noir. Appearing with Cézanne’s paintings and sketches are also black and white photos made by John Rewald to reveal the same views that Cézanne would have had while painting, allowing the reader to better appreciate the artist’s methods. The book also includes four gatefold pages.
