Description: This beautifully illustrated book—selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title from 2007—examines in detail 30 objects from the collection of English silver in the Moscow Kremlin Museums, where the world’s greatest surviving group of 16th- and 17th-century English silver is housed. Much of the silver from this period was melted down during the English Civil War, making the Kremlin pieces exceedingly rare and historically important. The silver items—a large water pot with snake-shaped handle and spout, a flat drinking cup, a flagon shaped like a leopard—and other precious objects made by Russian and English craftsmen, seen in 45 black and white and 200 color photos and reproductions, exemplify the developing ties between England and Russia.
