Description: Discovered only two decades ago, the archeological sites at Sanxingdui, in the Sichuan province of China, have yielded some of the most startling and sophisticated Bronze Age objects ever found, and forced a reevaluation of traditional Chinese history. This exhibit catalog presents 118 of these exquisite artifacts in detail, including powerfully abstracted masks and full heads in verdigris bronze; lei jars festooned with elaborate dragons, elephants, and buffalo; halberds, swords, and other blades in bronze and stone; and charmingly animated, almost comical tomb figures. Illustrated with 250 color plates, 22 halftones, and 237 line drawings, the book also looks at related pieces, and describes the archeological sites themselves and the significance of their discovery.
