Description: The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is home to the largest collection of Cypriot antiquities outside of Cyprus, largely because of the efforts of the museum’s first director, Luigi Palma di Cesnola, who went to Cyprus in 1866 hoping to excavate works to rival the finds of Heinrich Schliemann at Troy.
