Description: Photographers and journalists Jane Bernard and Polly Brown motor west on the highway that’s the best in this snapshot tour of U.S. Route 66, interviewing the proprietors and longtime residents they encounter, from Bob and Peggy Kraft of the semi-subterranean Riviera Restaurant in Gardner, Illinois, to former Marilyn Monroe impersonator Dixie Evans and her Exotic World Burlesque Museum in Helendale, California.

Throughout the book are black and white portraits and color views of notable sights along the way, including the Polka-Dot Drive Inn in Illinois, several historic filling stations, Texas’s Cadillac Ranch, the Miss Historic Route 66 Beauty Queen, and the roller coaster on Santa Monica Pier. Route 66 historian Michael Wallis provides a foreword.
